THE POSITION

To provide a robust, effective, machine commissioning service to the business to ensure the business meets its responsibilities to customers & regulatory bodies and the Board and that the commissioning team and its functions are managed in accordance with company policies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manage the personal and technical development of the Commissioning Team.
• Manage commissioning resource activity, including people, facilities and tools, to ensure schedules are adhered to and deadlines are met.
• Play a pro-active role in the departments continuous improvement programme.
• Always strive to add value to our customers, building partnerships based on trust, respect and flexibility.
• Produce detailed and robust plans for the in house and on-site commissioning phases of the machine lifecycle.
• Coordinate with Technical, Control Systems, Process Development and Assembly managers to ensure they have awareness of upcoming resource requirements and can provide additional support when required.
• Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to customer specification.
• Ensure schedules are understood and workload and resources are managed so that deliveries are met.
• Manage and mentor the commissioning team activities to deliver successful pre-FAT/FAT/SAT.
• Provide a high level of commercial awareness to ensure the machine commissioning phases are delivered in the most cost effective manner and scope changes are managed in accordance with the company’s standard operating procedures.
• Ensure that challenges within the commissioning phase are resolved efficiently and effectively. Maximise use of both internal and external areas of expertise to minimise disruption to schedules.
• Cultivate innovative thought throughout the Commissioning Department and the project commissioning teams.
• Ensure output is in line with the company’s standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Effectively communicate project status to team members, management, customers and suppliers.
• Provide the Technical Director with the required information to establish project performance relative to its KPI’s.
• Maintain compliance with the company’s ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 systems and standard operating procedures.
• Take full responsibility for the management, motivation and coaching of the Commissioning team identifying development needs to ensure the team are engaged, satisfied and aligned with the vision, mission, value and aims of the business. This will contribute towards the continued success of the business and to the development of their skills.
• Manage the Commissioning team resources (including people, facilities and tools) ensuring an appropriate working environment is provided and that relevant tools are available to ensure effective delivery of projects. This will provide compliance with contractual obligations and ensure the team is operating as effectively as possible.
• Engage enable and empower the Commissioning team to ensure they are engaged, satisfied and aligned with the vision, mission, value and aims of the business and allow them to develop their skills and contribute towards the continued success of the business. At all times demonstrate respect, integrity, trust and excellence in interactions with all colleagues, customers and suppliers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide coaching and development opportunities to the Commissioning team to ensure they are engaged, enabled and empowered to achieve their potential and contribute towards the businesses success.
• Ensure the Commissioning team work in compliance with ISO14001, ISO9001 and OHSAS18001 and embed a culture of lean and continuous improvement by complying with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures. This will ensure that Mpac Lambert retains its accreditation and maintains its position as a provider of high quality service and that its employees are working efficiently and safely.
• Report at Board level on KPI performance, budgetary requirements and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that Mpac Lambert facilities are always able to offer the best services to its customers whilst ensuring best value for Mpac Lambert Spend.
• Being constantly commercially aware to maximise value to our customers and maintain a loyal customer base
• Contribute to the department’s continuous improvement programme. Develop and maintain machine set up best practices, create work instructions and provide training as required to ensure the business provides the highest possible value of service to our customers.
• Compile information and report to the Technical Director on the performance relative to the departments KPI’s and budgetary requirements. This will ensure the department is constantly aligned to the company’s strategy.
• Manage the Commissioning team overseeing the entire process and when issues are identified have the authority to specify design changes, prioritise issues and emphasise urgency. This will ensure speedy and effective resolution to commissioning problems.
• Ensure all required commissioning control documentation is completed prior to key commissioning stage gates (Pre-FAT/FAT/SAT).
• Provide departmental managers feedback on the commissioning team’s performance.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Experience of managing commissioning activities, coaching and mentoring a team, ideally in an industrial automation environment.
• Experience of identifying contractual scope change, effective use of resources and capital expenditure on facilities and tools. Managing the commercial environment of customer requirements, resources and capital expenditure.
• Experience of working in an innovative environment and providing innovative solutions.
• Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001 and ISO27001.
• Experience in the validation procedures and application of GAMP.
• Ability to elicit co-operation from a wide variety of sources.
• Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a high pressure environment.
• Excellent communication, IT and line management skills.

THE PERSON

• Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities, demands and timelines simultaneously.
• Proven ability to manage a team dealing with multiple projects simultaneously.
• Sound knowledge of automation technologies.
• Experience in the evaluation and introduction of 6S lean initiatives.
• Experience in managing both long and short term team resource needs.
• Understanding of process requirements; consideration of alternatives; conducting capability evaluations and choosing the right thing.
• ONC/HNC in a relevant engineering discipline
• Ability to drive forward and manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite.
