THE POSITION

To provide a robust, effective, Machine commissioning service to the business to ensure the business meets its responsibilities to customers & regulatory bodies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manage commissioning resource activity, including people, facilities and tools, to ensure schedules are adhered to and deadlines are met.
• Play a pro-active role in the departments continuous improvement programme.
• Always strive to add value to our customers, building partnerships based on trust, respect and flexibility.
• Produce detailed and robust plans for the in house and on-site commissioning phases of the machine lifecycle.
• Lead the commissioning team activities to deliver successful pre-FAT/FAT/SAT.
• Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to customer specification.
• Ensure a clear scope of work is understood and managed so that the team understand and deliver requirements.
• Provide a high level of commercial awareness to ensure the machine commissioning phases are delivered in the most cost effective manner and scope changes are managed in accordance with the company’s standard operating procedures.
• Ensure that challenges within the commissioning phase are resolved efficiently and effectively. Maximise use of both internal and external areas of expertise to minimise disruption to schedules.
• Effectively communicate project status to team members, management, customers and suppliers.
• Provide the Head of Commissioning with the required information to establish a projects performance relative to its KPI’s.
• Ensure output is in line with the company’s standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
Maintain compliance with the company’s ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 systems and standard operating procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Being constantly commercially aware to maximise value to our customers and maintain a loyal customer base
• Ensure all required commissioning control documentation is completed prior to key commissioning stage gates (Pre-FAT/FAT/SAT).
• Understand machine performance requirements from the original specification and, when commissioning problems occur, speedily identify and resolve process issues by establishing root-cause factors and providing innovative solutions. This will ensure that the commissioning process is carried out effectively and that it delivers customer requirements and will therefore result in successful installation and payment.
• Contribute to the department’s continuous improvement programme. Develop and maintain machine set up best practices, create work instructions as required to ensure the business provides the highest possible value of service to our customers.
• Timely escalation of issues/project risks to the relevant departments, to ensure all project risks are managed.

• Compile information and report to Head of Commissioning on the performance relative to the departments KPI’s and budgetary requirements. This will ensure the department is constantly aligned to the company’s strategy.
• Provide departmental managers feedback on the commissioning team’s performance.
• Provide the commissioning team with clear guidance and schedule requirements. Support the commissioning team to ensure all commissioning procedures are reviewed and approved in line with the company’s standard operating procedure. This will ensure documents are issued in line with the schedule, apply our right first time ethos and minimise waste.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Understanding of process requirements; consideration of alternatives; conducting capability evaluations and choosing the right thing.
• Awareness of quality and safety management processes
• 6S change experience would be an advantage
• Commercially aware of the effective use of resources, scope change and implications of choice.
• Ability to elicit co-operation from a wide variety of sources.
• Excellent communication, IT skills.

THE PERSON

• Experience of leading commissioning activities in a manufacturing environment
• Sound knowledge of automation technologies
• Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
• Sound understanding of robotics in automation solutions
• Sound knowledge of Rockwell and Siemens programming platforms
• Proven experience of electrical fault finding
• Sound knowledge of Rockwell and Siemens programming platforms
• ONC/HNC in a relevant engineering discipline
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite
• Ability to work as part of a machine commissioning team.
